AN ACT PROVIDING FUNDING FOR AN ENGINEERING AND OPERATING STUDY OF AN AMTRAK ROUTE ACROSS SOUTHERN MONTANA; CREATING A SOUTHERN AMTRAK ROUTE ACCOUNT; ALLOWING THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO ACCEPT GIFTS, GRANTS, OR DONATIONS FOR THE ACCOUNT; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:



     Section 1.  Southern amtrak route account. (1) There is a southern amtrak route account in the state special revenue fund. Money deposited in the account must be used for an engineering and operating study by amtrak of a rail passenger route across southern Montana. The department of transportation shall administer the account.

     (2) The department may accept gifts, grants, or donations for the engineering and operating study.



     Section 2.  Codification instruction. [Section 1] is intended to be codified as an integral part of Title 60, chapter 11, part 2, and the provisions of Title 60, chapter 11, part 2, apply to [section 1].



     Section 3.  Effective date. [This act] is effective July 1, 2001.
