HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 20
INTRODUCED BY A. CURTISS, ANDERSEN, ADAMS, COLE, JACKSON, OLSON
A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MONTANA URGING THE PRESIDENT, THE CONGRESS, AND THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO FACILITATE THE CONSTRUCTION OF CRITICALLY NEEDED NEW ENERGY GENERATION FACILITIES USING POWDER RIVER BASIN SUPER COMPLIANT COAL AND OTHER AVAILABLE MONTANA NATURAL RESOURCES.
WHEREAS, the United States, the northwest region, and the state of Montana are faced with the prospects of severe energy shortages, particularly a shortage of electrical energy in the immediate future; and
WHEREAS, new energy generation facilities are needed to prevent these shortages and their potentially disastrous effects from occurring; and
WHEREAS, in recent years various special interest and environmental groups, as well as certain agencies of the federal and state government, have obstructed the expeditious construction of these necessary facilities through litigation and other delaying tactics; and
WHEREAS, these groups do not represent the will of the majority of people of the state of Montana
and are not acting in the best interests of the people of the state of Montana; and
WHEREAS, Montana is richly endowed with natural resources, including Powder River Basin super compliant coal that could help prevent or at least ease the pending electrical energy supply crisis.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:
(1) That the President, the Congress, and the Executive Branch of the federal government are urged to facilitate the construction of critically needed new energy generation facilities using Powder River Basin super compliant coal and other available Montana natural resources.
(2) That the United States Congress is urged to enact any legislation that will support the construction of energy generation facilities.
(3) That the Secretary of State send copies of this resolution to the President of the United States, the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, the United States Secretary of Energy, and the Montana Congressional Delegation.
