A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MONTANA DICTATING THE DISPOSITION OF THE XANTHOPOULOS BUILDING AND PREVENTING THE TRANSFER OF THE XANTHOPOULOS BUILDING TO ANACONDA-DEER LODGE FOR USE AS A REGIONAL CORRECTIONAL FACILITY.



     WHEREAS, at the November 20, 2000, meeting of the Board of Land Commissioners, the Board authorized the transfer of the Xanthopoulos Building in Warm Springs to the Anaconda-Deer Lodge consolidated government on April 1, 2001, unless a resolution is passed by a majority of the Legislature dictating a different disposition of the building; and

     WHEREAS, the Department of Corrections has identified a need to use the Xanthopoulos Building for the treatment of inmates with chemical dependency and other health-related problems.



NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:

     (1) That the Xanthopoulos Building be retained in state ownership to be used by the Department of Corrections for use in treating inmates with chemical dependency and other health-related problems.

     (2) That the Board of Land Commissioners be directed to not transfer the Xanthopoulos Building to the Anaconda-Deer Lodge consolidated government for use as a regional correctional facility.

     (3) That the Secretary of State send copies of this resolution to the Board of Land Commissioners and to the chief executive of Anaconda-Deer Lodge.
