A BILL FOR AN ACT ENTITLED: "AN ACT REQUIRING THE INSTALLATION OF A STOP SIGNAL ARM ON CERTAIN BUSES; AND PROVIDING A DELAYED EFFECTIVE DATE."

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 1.  Stop signal arms on buses. A person may not move or permit to be moved a bus, other than a school bus as defined in 20-10-101, upon the public highways without first equipping the bus with an octagonal-shaped stop signal arm of not less than 150 square inches that automatically extends perpendicular to the left side of the bus. The stop signal arm must be reflectorized, reflectorized with illuminated legend, or have at least two flashing red lamps on each side. A bus over 40 feet in length must have an additional stop signal arm mounted to the rear of the bus.

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 2.  Codification instruction. [Section 1] is intended to be codified as an integral part of Title 61, chapter 9, part 4, and the provisions of Title 61, chapter 9, apply to [section 1].

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 3.  Effective date. [This act] is effective July 1, 2008.
