A BILL FOR AN ACT ENTITLED: "AN ACT PROVIDING THAT A PERSON WHO, FOR PURPOSES OF COMPLIANCE WITH 61-6-301, PURCHASES A POLICY OF MOTOR VEHICLE LIABILITY INSURANCE WITHIN 60 DAYS AFTER BEING CONVICTED OF VIOLATING THAT SECTION MAY NOT CANCEL THE INSURANCE WITHIN 6 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE OF THE POLICY; PROVIDING A PENALTY; AND PROVIDING AN APPLICABILITY DATE."

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 1.  Insurance procured for compliance purposes noncancelable for six months. A person who, for purposes of compliance with 61-6-301, purchases a policy of insurance within 60 days after the purchaser has been convicted of violating that section may not cancel the purchased insurance within 6 months after the date of purchase. A person who knowingly violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be punished as provided in 46-18-212.

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 2.  Codification instruction. [Section 1] is intended to be codified as an integral part of Title 61, chapter 6, part 3, and the provisions of Title 61, chapter 6, part 3, apply to [section 1].

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 3.  Applicability. [This act] applies to a policy of insurance purchased after October 1, 2007.
