SENATE BILL NO. 484

A BILL FOR AN ACT ENTITLED: "AN ACT AUTHORIZING THE COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY OF MONTANA STATE UNIVERSITY-BILLINGS TO CONSTRUCT A REGIONAL WORKFORCE TRAINING FACILITY; RECOMMENDING A SOURCE OF FUNDING FOR THIS FACILITY; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE."

 

     WHEREAS, the State of Montana's economic health and stability is only as good as its workforce; and

     WHEREAS, improving the skills of the Montana workforce will lead to better paying jobs and stronger businesses; and

     WHEREAS, a regional workforce training facility of flexible design can be responsive to business and workforce training needs and help attract new businesses that require skilled workers who earn better pay; and

     WHEREAS, a regional workforce training facility in Idaho similar to the one proposed in [this act] served 7,000 individuals during 2006 in a variety of customized training programs.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 1.  Authorization. The legislature authorizes the college of technology of Montana state university-Billings to construct a 30,000 square-foot regional workforce training facility.

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 2.  Recommended funding. The legislature recommends that an allocation of $3.6 million be included in House Bill No. 5 for the construction of this regional workforce training facility.

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 3.  Effective date. [This act] is effective July 1, 2007.
