A BILL FOR AN ACT ENTITLED: "AN ACT REQUIRING NEW MOTOR VEHICLES PURCHASED IN THIS STATE TO BE EQUIPPED WITH DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS."



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:



     NEW SECTION.  Section 1.  Daytime running lights -- exception. (1) As used in this section, "daytime running lights" means front lamps, other than parking or fog lamps, that are wired to operate automatically during the daytime.

     (2) A person may not purchase a new motor vehicle in this state after January 1, 2000, unless it is equipped with daytime running lights. This section does not apply to motorcycles, quadricycles, or motor-driven cycles.



     NEW SECTION.  Section 2.  Codification instruction. [Section 1] is intended to be codified as an integral part of Title 61, chapter 9, part 2, and the provisions of Title 61, chapter 9, part 2, apply to [section 1].
