A BILL FOR AN ACT ENTITLED: "AN ACT REQUIRING A NOTARY PUBLIC TO SUBMIT TO THE OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY OF STATE A FEE FOR CHANGING THE NOTARY PUBLIC'S ADDRESS AND TELEPHONE NUMBER; AMENDING SECTION 1-5-409, MCA; AND PROVIDING A CONTINGENT VOIDNESS PROVISION."
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:
Section 1. Section 1-5-409, MCA, is amended to read:
"1-5-409. Information to be filed. A person appointed as a notary public shall file
his the person's address and
telephone number with the office of the secretary of state. If the notary public changes his the address or telephone number
during his the term of commission, he the notary shall notify the office of the change and submit to the office a $15 fee."
NEW SECTION. Section 2. Submission to electorate. This act shall be submitted to the qualified electors of Montana at the tax election to be held in 1999 by printing on the ballot the full title of this act and the following:
SHALL A NEW TAX, DESCRIBED AS FOLLOWS, BE IMPOSED?
 FOR requiring a notary public to submit to the secretary of state a $15 fee when filing a change of address or telephone number.
 AGAINST requiring a notary public to submit to the secretary of state a $15 fee when filing a change of address or telephone number.
NEW SECTION. Section 3. Contingent voidness. If Constitutional Initiative No. 75, enacting Article VIII, section 17, of the Montana constitution, is declared invalid, then section 2 of this act is void.
