The daily journal for the Montana House of Representatives is available in either of two file formats. One format is Adobe PDF, and files of this type have a .pdf file extension. The second format is WordPerfect 5.1, and these files have a .w51 extension. Adobe PDF is a popular file format, and you can download a free viewer for these files. See the LAWS help file for a link to www.adobe.com, or check the "Useful Software" folder on METNET to get the viewer. WordPerfect 5.1 formatted files can be downloaded and imported into many word processing programs (MS Word, newer version of WordPerfect). The filenames identify the date and session day for the journals in the list. The format is this: llsscccc.ext where each of the filename sections carries the following information. "ll" the first two characters identify the house (sj = senate, hj = house). The next two characters "ss" indicate the session day (01 is the first session day). The next four characters "cccc" indicate the calendar day with a MMDD format (0508 represents May 8). The period, and "ext" are the file extension described above. Journals are edited and proofed before posting. Typically they are posted five to seven business days after the floor session.
