Legislative Council to Consider Strategic Initiatives

The Legislative Council, one of three administrative committees of the legislative branch of state government, will meet Sept. 22 in Helena to consider ideas for improving the workings of the branch.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in Room 102 of the State Capitol. The council will discuss proposed initiatives that came out of a strategic planning session in August.

Among the topics on the agenda are:

  • creation of diverse staff teams to facilitate and coordinate the work of legislative committees; and
  • creation of subcommittees to focus on legislative rules and other specific areas of interest.

The public is welcome to attend and will have an opportunity to comment on topics within the council's jurisdiction. The main council meeting also will be audio-streamed over the legislative Web site at leg.mt.gov and broadcast over the state government television network, TVMT.

The Legislative Council provides oversight for the Legislative Services Division, which encompasses human resources, information technology, legal services, document processing, and policy research and analysis for the Legislature and its staff.

The 12-member, bipartisan council includes legislative leaders and other legislators appointed by the leadership.

A complete agenda, as well as other documents related to the meeting, are available on the legislative Web site at leg.mt.gov/legcouncil.

For more information, contact Susan Byorth Fox, executive director of the Legislative Services Division, at 406-444-3066 or sfox@mt.gov.
