The leadership of the 2011 Montana Legislature has adopted a change in the legislative calendar in an announcement made jointly by Senate President-elect Jim Peterson (R-Buffalo) and House Speaker-elect Mike Milburn (R-Cascade).
“We have scheduled Saturday, January 8, 2011, for a special joint meeting of the Legislature to create an opportunity for private-sector Montana employers to come tell us what we can do to help put Montana back to work,” stated President-elect Peterson.
“We are hoping small employers, large employers, and the self-employed will give us ideas of what burdensome laws, regulations, or tax policies need to be changed or repealed so that these private employers can create opportunity for unemployed Montanans to rejoin the workforce,” stated Speaker-elect Milburn.
“It is our hope that these Montana job creators will come forward with specific suggestions on unnecessary or overly complicated laws or regulations that we could take a look at repealing,” Peterson noted.
“The next session of the Montana Legislature will be focused on creating opportunity for Montanans, and this is our first step -- to listen to the people of Montana, those private-sector employers who take a lot of risk to put people to work to offer goods and services to consumers,” Milburn added.
Private-sector employers wishing to make short presentations at the hearing should indicate their interest by filling out a speaker participation form and sending it by e-mail to the Legislative Information Office at leginfo@mt.gov or by fax to 406-444-3036.
