Statutory Citation: Section 17-6-411, MCA

The 13 members of the Microbusiness Advisory Council advise the Department of Commerce regarding the operation and maintenance of the Microbusiness Development and Finance Program.

The program is responsible for oversight ofmicrobusiness development corporations, which aredefined as nonprofit corporations organized and existingunder the laws of the state to provide training, technicalassistance, and access to capital for the startup orexpansion of qualified microbusinesses. A qualifiedmicrobusiness is one that produces goods or providesservices and has fewer than 10 full-time equivalentemployees and annual gross revenues of less than$500,000.

Two Representatives, appointed by the Speaker of theHouse, and two Senators named by the Committee onCommittees serve as nonvoting participants in theAdvisory Council, joining the nine members appointedby the Governor.
