The committee divided into two subcommittees at its July 15 meeting. The subcommittees are the Postsecondary Education Policy and Budget Subcommittee and the Local Government Subcommittee. Section 5-5-224, MCA, provides for the committee's responsibilities as liaison between the Legislature and the following entities.

Board of Public Education
Board of Regents of Higher Education
State Board of Education

The committee also serves as the Legislature's liaison with local governments. Cities and counties are represented before the committee by the Montana League of Cities and Towns and the Montana Association of Counties.
