Subcommittee on Postsecondary Education Policy and Budget

The Joint Subcommittee on Postsecondary Education Policy and Budget (PEPB) is a bipartisan, bicameral subcommittee of the Education and Local Government Interim Committee. In addition to the four representatives appointed by the House leadership and the four senators appointed by the Senate leadership, the membership includes two Regents, a representative of the Governor's Office, and a postsecondary student. The 2001 interim members are:

The purpose of the Joint Subcommittee on Postsecondary Education Policy and Budget is to:

  1. provide information to the Board of Regents
  2. periodically review the success or failure of the university system in meeting its annual goals and long-range plans
  3. periodically review the results of outcome assessment programs
  4. develop mechanisms to ensure strict accountability of the revenues and expenditures of the university system
  5. study and report to the legislature on the advisability of adjustments to the mechanisms used to determine funding for the university system
  6. act as a liaison and encourage cooperation between both the legislative and executive branches and the Board of Regents; and
  7. report its activities, funding, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the legislature. In the 2001 biennium, the subcommittee was assigned the SJR 16 higher education funding study

The next meeting date for the PEPB is May 9, 2000 in Room C209 in the Cogswell Building at 6:30 PM. The agenda includes a study on alternative methods of funding higher education.
