Panel to Discuss Expanding Access to Legislative TV Coverage

A subcommittee of the Legislative Council will meet Aug. 20 in Helena to consider options for expanding television coverage of legislative proceedings to more Montana communities during the 2009 session and beyond.

The group will meet from 9 a.m. to noon in Room 350 of the State Capitol. The public is invited to attend and will have an opportunity for comment.

An agenda and other meeting materials are available on the legislative Web site at www.leg.mt.gov/legcouncil.

The subcommittee will review options for expanding Television Montana, or TVMT, a state government broadcasting service that provides gavel-to-gavel, unedited television coverage of legislative proceedings, both during and between sessions of the Legislature.

TVMT is currently available in Billings (Channel 70), Bozeman (63), Helena (19), and Missoula (67).

The subcommittee will recommend options to the full Legislative Council during a Sept. 16 meeting.

Members of the subcommittee are Sens. Greg Barkus, R-Kalispell; Dan Harrington, D-Butte; and Reps. Dennis Himmelberger, R-Billings; and Dave McAlpin, D-Missoula.

For more information, contact Susan Byorth Fox, director of the Legislative Services Division, at sfox@mt.gov or 444-3066.
