46-18-254. Release of sexual or violent offender -- duties of court and department. A sexual or violent offender must be informed in writing at the time of sentencing of the duty to register under 46-18-255; Title 46, chapter 23, part 5; and this section by the court in which the offender is sentenced. The department of corrections shall obtain the address at which the person expects to reside upon release or discharge or suspension of the person's sentence. The department of corrections shall inform the appropriate law enforcement agency having local jurisdiction where the person expects to reside.
