A Joint Resolution of the Senate and the House of Representatives of the state of Montana authorizing the permanent placement of a plaque in the capitol commemorating the service of women in the Montana legislature.



WHEREAS, the 1995 Legislature passed Senate Joint Resolution No. 24, celebrating the 100th year of women elected to state legislatures; and

WHEREAS, in 1917, Emma Ingalls and Maggie Smith Hathaway became the first women to serve in the Montana Legislature; and

WHEREAS, the Montana Legislature proudly recognizes the service of women to the state; and

WHEREAS, section 5-11-115, MCA, requires the approval of the Legislature for the permanent display of busts, statues, and memorials.



NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:

That the Legislature of the State of Montana approve the permanent placement and display of a plaque in the capitol commemorating the service of women in the Montana Legislature.
