A Joint Resolution of the Senate and the House of Representatives of the state of Montana congratulating the 1995 and 1996 University of Montana Grizzly football teams for their outstanding seasons.
WHEREAS, the University of Montana at Missoula has developed an outstanding winning tradition; and
WHEREAS, the Montana Grizzlies feature a large number of graduates of Montana high schools and, therefore, provide role models for young Montanans and instill pride in all Montanans; and
WHEREAS, the Montana Grizzlies captured back-to-back Big Sky Conference championships in 1995 and 1996; and
WHEREAS, the 1995 Montana Grizzlies, led by Walter Payton Award winner Dave Dickenson of Great Falls, capped an excellent season by defeating Marshall University 22-20 to win the national championship; and
WHEREAS, the 1996 Montana Grizzlies had a perfect regular season of 14-0 and again advanced to the national championship game; and
WHEREAS, throughout the successful campaigns, the Grizzlies displayed excellent sportsmanship and personified the ideal of student athletes by achieving both academically and athletically; and
WHEREAS, the Montana Grizzlies have become a source of pride and inspiration for all Montanans.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:
That the congratulations of all Montanans be extended to the Montana Grizzly football team, former Coach Don Read, Coach Mick Dennehy, and the entire coaching staff for their outstanding seasons and for bringing recognition and honor to the State of Montana.
