A Bill for an Act entitled: "An Act submitting to the qualified electors of montana an amendment to article ii, section 14, of the montana constitution authorizing the legislature or the people to establish a legal age for gambling; and providing an immediate effective date."



Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Montana:



Section 1.  Article II, section 14, of The Constitution of the State of Montana is amended to read:

"Section 14.  Adult rights. A person 18 years of age or older is an adult for all purposes, except that the legislature or the people by initiative may establish the legal age for gambling or for purchasing, consuming, or possessing alcoholic beverages."



NEW SECTION. Section 2.  Submission to electorate. This amendment shall be submitted to the qualified electors of Montana at the general election to be held in November 1998 by printing on the ballot the full title of this act and the following:

[] FOR authorizing the legislature or the people to establish a legal age for gambling.

[] AGAINST authorizing the legislature or the people to establish a legal age for gambling.



NEW SECTION. Section 3.  Effective date. This amendment is effective on approval by the electorate.
