SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 14
INTRODUCED BY E. FRANKLIN
A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MONTANA URGING THAT THE U.S. CONGRESS ESTABLISH, FOR MEN AND WOMEN WHO ARE 18 YEARS OF AGE, A PUBLIC SERVICE OBLIGATION IN THE FORM OF EITHER A MILITARY SERVICE OBLIGATION OR A NONMILITARY, COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE COMMITMENT.
WHEREAS, the stability and equality of our free and democratic society is dependent on the broad participation of all citizens in the performance of the core functions of the community; and
WHEREAS, each citizen has an obligation to promote the common welfare, which includes civil defense and public service for the greater good of our society; and
WHEREAS, each citizen should have the opportunity to experience the intrinsic value of contributing to the goals of our society through the fulfillment of a public service obligation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:
That the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives be strongly urged to establish, for men and women who are 18 years of age and United States citizens, a public service obligation in the form of either a military service obligation or a nonmilitary, community-based service commitment.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Secretary of State send copies of this resolution to Montana's Congressional Delegation.
