INTRODUCED BY C. STAPLETON

A BILL FOR AN ACT ENTITLED: "AN ACT TRANSFERRING MONEY FROM THE GENERAL FUND TO AN ACCOUNT IN THE STATE SPECIAL REVENUE FUND TO THE CREDIT OF THE OFFICE OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION TO BE USED TO REIMBURSE SCHOOL DISTRICTS THAT MISTAKENLY REAPPROPRIATED ALL OF THEIR GENERAL FUND BALANCE RATHER THAN PLACING THAT AMOUNT IN THE DISTRICT'S OPERATING RESERVE; AND PROVIDING AN IMMEDIATE EFFECTIVE DATE."

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:

NEW SECTION.  Section 1.  Fund transfer. The amount of $752,513 is transferred from the general fund to the guarantee account in the state special revenue fund to the credit of the office of public instruction for guaranteed tax base aid. The office of public instruction shall use the money in the account to reimburse school districts that mistakenly reappropriated all of their general fund balance in the budget for the school fiscal year beginning July 1, 2000, rather than placing that amount in the district's operating reserve.

NEW SECTION.  Section 2.  Effective date. [This act] is effective on passage and approval.
