A BILL FOR AN ACT ENTITLED: "AN ACT PROVIDING LAPTOP COMPUTERS FOR LEGISLATORS TO CONDUCT LEGISLATIVE BUSINESS; PROVIDING AN APPROPRIATION; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE."

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 1.  Provision of computers for legislators. The legislative services division shall provide each legislator with a laptop computer and with the virus or security and office software that is necessary to conduct legislative business. The legislator may keep the laptop computer for the duration of the legislator's term, and at the end of the term the legislator may either return the computer or purchase it. The legislator's use of the computer and software is subject to the provisions of Title 2, chapter 2.

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 2.  Appropriation. There is appropriated $135,000 from the general fund to the legislative services division for the 2009 biennium to purchase laptop computers for legislators as provided in [section 1].

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 3.  Codification instruction. [Section 1] is intended to be codified as an integral part of Title 5, chapter 11, part 4, and the provisions of Title 5, chapter 11, part 4, apply to [section 1].

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 4.  Effective date. [This act] is effective July 1, 2007.
