A BILL FOR AN ACT ENTITLED: "AN ACT APPROPRIATING GENERAL FUND MONEY TO THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE TO BE USED FOR GRANTS TO ASSIST COUNTIES IN INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE."

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 1.  County infrastructure development -- appropriation -- allocation -- use. (1) There is appropriated to the department of commerce for the 2009 biennium $29 million from the state general fund for the purpose of providing infrastructure development grants to counties. The amount allocated to each county must be determined as provided in subsection (2).

     (2) Each county must receive $250,000, plus an amount equal to $2 for each resident as determined by the 2000 federal census or the 2005 federal census estimates, whichever is greater.

     (3) Money received by counties must be used for the acquisition, construction, and improvement of infrastructure, industrial infrastructure, technology infrastructure, or aerospace transportation and technology infrastructure, including streets, roads, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, pedestrian malls, alleys, parking lots and offstreet parking facilities, sewers, sewer lines, sewage treatment facilities, storm sewers, water lines, waterways, water treatment facilities, natural gas lines, electrical lines, telecommunications lines, rail lines, rail spurs, bridges, spaceports for reusable launch vehicles with associated runways and launch, recovery, fuel manufacturing, and cargo holding facilities, publicly owned buildings, and any other public improvements determined to be necessary and appropriate by the county governing body.

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 2.  Effective date. [This act] is effective July 1, 2007.
