A BILL FOR AN ACT ENTITLED: "AN ACT APPROPRIATING MONEY TO THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE TO PROVIDE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND SUPPORT TO LOCAL GOVERNMENTS AND ENTITIES TO RESPOND TO REPORTS OF CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE."

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 1.  Child sexual abuse support function. The department of justice shall provide technical assistance and support to local governments and entities to respond to reports of child sexual abuse. The technical assistance and support may include forensic interview training, equipment to document interviews, and assistance to multidisciplinary teams. In conducting training, the department shall use the cornerhouse model of training. The department may hire an employee to administer the technical assistance and support function.

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 2.  Appropriation. There is appropriated from the state general fund $500,000 for the biennium ending June 30, 2009, to be used by the department of justice for the function described in [section 1]. Up to $130,000 of the appropriation may be used for equipment to document interviews.

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 3.  Effective date. [This act] is effective July 1, 2007.
