BY REQUEST OF THE DEPARTMENT OF LIVESTOCK

 

AN ACT APPLYING THE REGULATIONS OF THE FEDERAL HUMANE METHODS OF SLAUGHTER ACT OF 1978 TO THE PROVISIONS OF THE MONTANA MEAT AND POULTRY INSPECTION ACT; AMENDING SECTION 81-9-219, MCA; AND PROVIDING AN IMMEDIATE EFFECTIVE DATE.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:

 

     Section 1.  Section 81-9-219, MCA, is amended to read:

     "81-9-219.  Application. The provisions of 81-9-216 through 81-9-220 and 81-9-226 through 81-9-236 apply to persons, establishments, animals, and articles regulated under the Federal Meat Inspection Act, 21 U.S.C. 601 through 695, or the federal Poultry Products Inspection Act, 21 U.S.C. 451 through 470, as those acts read on October 1, 1987, or the federal Humane Methods of Slaughter Act of 1978, 7 U.S.C. 1901, 1902, 1904, 1906, and 1907, as that act read on [the effective date of this act], only to the extent provided for therein in the federal acts."

 

     Section 2.  Effective date. [This act] is effective on passage and approval.
