A BILL FOR AN ACT ENTITLED: "AN ACT MOVING THE STATE FIREFIGHTERS' MEMORIAL FROM LAUREL TO HELENA; REQUIRING THE CAPITOL COMPLEX ADVISORY COUNCIL TO SELECT A SITE; PROVIDING DIRECTIONS AND LEGISLATIVE INTENT TO THE ADVISORY COUNCIL; REQUIRING THE COUNCIL TO REPORT TO AN INTERIM COMMITTEE; AMENDING SECTION 1-1-519, MCA; AND PROVIDING AN IMMEDIATE EFFECTIVE DATE."
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:
Section 1. Section 1-1-519, MCA, is amended to read:
"1-1-519. Montana state firefighters' memorial. (1) The site on the capitol complex in Helena, Montana, chosen by the city of Laurel, Montana, as "firefighters' memorial park" capitol complex advisory council is officially designated as the location of the Montana state firefighters' memorial.
(2) The department of commerce and the department of transportation shall identify the memorial in Laurel Helena on official state maps and, where appropriate, on state highway signs as the official state firefighters' memorial."
NEW SECTION. Section 2. Directions to capitol complex advisory council -- legislative intent. (1) The intent of the legislature is that the capitol complex advisory council work with stakeholders and the department of administration to select an appropriate site on the capitol grounds for the memorial, to propose a memorial design, and to make recommendations for funding.
(2) The capitol complex advisory council shall present the results of its selection and design work, as well as the funding recommendation, to the state administration and veterans' affairs interim committee no later than September 15, 2018. The advisory council may recommend that additional legislation be prepared for the 2019 legislature, if necessary.
NEW SECTION. Section 3. Effective date. [This act] is effective on passage and approval.
