A BILL FOR AN ACT ENTITLED: "AN ACT APPROPRIATING FUNDS FROM THE GENERAL FUND TO THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE TO BE USED FOR GRANTS TO ASSIST IN THE RESTORATION AND RENOVATION OF CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL ARTS CENTERS; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE."

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 1.  Appropriation. (1) There is appropriated $100,000 from the state general fund to the department of commerce for the biennium beginning July 1, 2019, for grants to assist in the restoration and renovation of historical and cultural centers that:

     (a) operate historical tours to educate the public;

     (b) are in communities that are at least 100 miles from another center of the same type;

     (c) have the unique challenge of maintaining underground exhibits; and

     (d) have a documented need for significant structural repairs.

     (2) The department shall use a competitive application process in awarding grants, and money will be made available to nonprofit organizations, businesses, and local governments to restore and repair historical and cultural centers.

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 2.  Effective date. [This act] is effective July 1, 2019.
