A BILL FOR AN ACT ENTITLED: "AN ACT RELATED TO FUEL ECONOMY STANDARDS; REQUIRING MINIMUM FUEL ECONOMY STANDARDS BASED ON FEDERAL CORPORATE AVERAGE FUEL ECONOMY STANDARDS OR CALIFORNIA'S LOW-EMISSION VEHICLE STANDARDS; PROVIDING RULEMAKING AUTHORITY; AND PROVIDING AN IMMEDIATE EFFECTIVE DATE."

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 1.  Montana fuel economy standards. (1) The board shall set light vehicle fuel economy standards based on either the federal corporate average fuel economy standard or California's low-emission vehicle standard.

     (2) The board shall select the standard requiring the highest light vehicle fuel economy requirements for average miles per gallon.

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 2.  Montana fuel economy -- rulemaking authority. The board shall adopt rules regarding Montana fuel economy standards pursuant to the standards established in [section 1].

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 3.  Codification instruction. [Sections 1 and 2] are intended to be codified as an integral part of Title 75, chapter 2, part 2, and the provisions of Title 75, chapter 2, part 2, apply to [sections 1 and 2].

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 4.  Effective date. [This act] is effective on passage and approval.
