HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 8

A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MONTANA RECOGNIZING AND HONORING THE MILITARY SERVICE OF MONTANANS IN THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES AND THEIR FAMILIES.

 

     WHEREAS, every American, by virtue of wearing the noble title of citizen, has great personal freedom and the right to pursue of life, liberty, and happiness; and

     WHEREAS, the history of our young country demonstrates countless examples of bravery and personal sacrifice to preserve the collective freedoms and liberties of our citizenry; and

     WHEREAS, our citizens have been called upon numerous times to defend our nation and the world against those who wish ill upon the United States and other nations of the world; and

     WHEREAS, many Montanans have dedicated their lives in the defense of our nation to standing up against those forces; and

     WHEREAS, Montanans have always answered the call to defend our nation, including in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Persian Gulf War, the Iraq War, and in military operations in Afghanistan and all over the world whenever their service has been needed; and

     WHEREAS, in these wars and conflicts, many Montanans have received the Purple Heart for having been wounded in combat and been the recipients of other medals for bravery and meritorious service; and

     WHEREAS, November 11, 2018, commemorated the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I; and

     WHEREAS, the year 2019 commemorates the 75th anniversary of D-Day, the Liberation of ROME AND Paris, and the EPIC Battle of the Bulge; and

     WHEREAS, Montanans will continue to serve and lead in the global war on terror and wherever needed to defend our freedoms; and

     WHEREAS, Montanans serving in every branch of the armed forces, both on active duty and in the National Guard and Reserves, have been deployed to defend American freedom at great personal sacrifice to themselves and their families; and

     WHEREAS, many Montanans have made the ultimate sacrifice in serving our country and defending our freedoms; and

     WHEREAS, we as Montanans will continue to support these heroes as they return home to face the challenge of rejoining their families, friends, and communities; and

     WHEREAS, we will also continue to honor and support their families who have sacrificed so much to support our country.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:

     That the Montana Legislature recognize and honor the dedication, professionalism, and bravery of all Montanans who have served and will serve in the armed forces of the United States in past wars, in the global war on terror, and whenever and wherever needed.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we also remember, recognize, and honor the sacrifices of the family members of those serving.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Secretary of State send copies of this resolution to the Montana Congressional Delegation, the respective Secretaries of the United States Army, Navy, and Air Force, the Commandant of the United States Marine Corps, the Commandant of the United States Coast Guard, and the Adjutant General of the Montana National Guard and include with the copies a request that the respective Secretaries and Commandants and the Adjutant General use every means available to provide a copy of this resolution to each member of the United States Armed Forces who hails from Montana.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the purpose and intent of this resolution is to convey to Montana service personnel that the heartfelt thanks of all Montanans are extended to them, that we are proud of them, that they are in our prayers, and that we send them best wishes for a safe return.
