WHEREAS, citizens of the town of Cut Bank first envisioned a railroad overpass to better connect their town and the surrounding area beginning in 1939, which got the attention of state transportation officials in 1969 and officially became the Glacier County Commission's top transportation priority in 1999; and

WHEREAS, William McCauley Sr. was a tireless advocate for an overpass for the majority of two decades, as former mayor of Cut Bank, founder of Glacier Action and Involvement Now, director of the chamber of commerce, and member of the city-county planning board, Sweetgrass Development, and Glacier County Regional Port Authority; and

WHEREAS, William McCauley Sr. attended years of meetings and hearings on the overpass project, discussing the project with local, county, and state officials, the public, and members of Congress; and

WHEREAS, in 2012, crews completed a bridge on Montana state highway 213 from the intersection with U.S. highway 2 and over the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe railroad tracks, which has reduced potential motorist and pedestrian conflicts, improved emergency response times, provided a continuous travel route through the town of Cut Bank, and reduced out-of-direction travel caused by trains blocking railroad tracks; and

WHEREAS, William McCauley Sr. impacted the town of Cut Bank in many other ways, as a local business owner, a local sports booster, and a member of many other community and social organizations; and

WHEREAS, the 67th Legislature of the State of Montana wishes to honor his memory and civic commitment.
