A BILL FOR AN ACT ENTITLED: "AN ACT GENERALLY REVISING SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION LAWS; AUTHORIZING THE USE OF 8-passenger to 15-PASSENGER VEHICLES FOR TRANSPORTATION OF STUDENTS TO AND FROM CERTAIN EVENTS; and PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE."

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:

 

NEW SECTION. Section 1.Transportation for special activities. (1) For purposes of this section, "passenger vehicle" means a motor vehicle that is:

(a) owned by a district;

(b) designed to transport 8 to 15 passengers and is the size and style of vehicle necessary to meet the needs of the district; and

(c) insured in accordance with the minimum coverage requirements established in 20-10-109.

(2) A district may use a passenger vehicle to transport students to or from school-sponsored functions or activities. A district may not use a passenger vehicle for purposes of transporting students to or from school on a regular bus route.

 

NEW SECTION. Section 2.Codification instruction. [Section 1] is intended to be codified as an integral part of Title 20, chapter 10, part 1, and the provisions of Title 20, chapter 10, part 1, apply to [section 1].

 

NEW SECTION. Section 3.Effective date. [This act] is effective July 1, 2021.
