A BILL FOR AN ACT ENTITLED: "AN ACT requiring the playing or singing of THE national anthem prior to a SPORTING event held at a venue constructed with public funding; providing DEFINITIONS; and PROVIDING AN IMMEDIATE EFFECTIVE DATE."

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:

NEW SECTION. Section 1. National anthem required before sporting events at publicly financed venues. (1) A sporting event may not be held in a venue for which the construction was financed in whole or in part from money contributed by the state or a political subdivision unless the event is preceded by the playing or singing of the national anthem.

(2)        As used in this section, the following terms apply:

(a)        "Political subdivision" means any county, city, municipal corporation, school district, special improvement or taxing district, other political subdivision or public corporation, or entity created by agreement between two or more political subdivisions.

(b)        "State" means the state of Montana or any office, department, agency, authority, commission, board, institution, hospital, college, university, or other instrumentality of the state.

NEW SECTION. Section 2. Codification instruction. [Section 1] is intended to be codified as an integral part of Title 23, chapter 2, and the provisions of Title 23, chapter 2, apply to [section 1].

NEW SECTION. Section 3. Effective date. [This act] is effective on passage and approval.
