A joint resolution of the Senate and the House of Representatives of the state of montana requesting a feasibility study by the department of commerce to establish trade relations with india.

WHEREAS, it is Montana's desire for the United States to move away from import and export dependence on certain Asian nations; and

WHEREAS, India stands as the 5th largest economy in the world, which presents a large economic trade opportunity for Montana companies for export; and

WHEREAS, in 2021, overall United States-India bilateral trade in goods and services reached a record $157 billion; and

WHEREAS, Montana desires to expand its position in the South Asian market, especially India, through its robust agriculture production, growing manufacturing capabilities, and extractive renewable resources.

Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Senate and the House of Representatives OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:

(1) That the State of Montana conduct a study through the Department of Commerce to determine the feasibility of establishing a trade office or other trade opportunities in India and South Asia.

(2) That the Secretary of State send copies of this resolution to the Department of Commerce, the Montana Congressional Delegation, the Governor, and the U. S. Department of State.
