A BILL FOR AN ACT ENTITLED: "AN ACT REQUIRING PARTISAN ELECTIONS OF CERTAIN MUNICIPAL OFFICERS UNDER THE MUNICIPAL COMMISSION FORM OF GOVERNMENT; AMENDING SECTION 7-3-4262, MCA; and PROVIDING AN IMMEDIATE EFFECTIVE DATE."
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:
Section 1. Section 7-3-4262, MCA, is amended to read:
"7-3-4262. Nonpartisan Partisan and nonpartisan appointments and elections. (1) All officers and employees in any said city shall The mayor and city council members of a city may not be elected or appointed with reference to their qualifications and fitness and for the good of the public service and without reference to their political faith or party affiliations.
(2) All other officers and employees of a city shall be elected or appointed with reference to their qualifications and fitness and for the good of the public service and without reference to their political faith or party affiliations."
NEW SECTION. Section 2. Effective date. [This act] is effective on passage and approval.
