Explanation - Major Maintenance Aid payments are determined by statute (20-9-525, MCA), and if all Montana school districts receive the maximum payment, the total Major Maintenance Aid amount is capped at $12,098,464 in FY 2024 and $12,148,276 in FY 2025. Major Maintenance Aid is funded with a combination of general fund and state special revenue. This amendment would decrease the Major Maintenance Aid appropriation in the Local Education Activities Program of the Office of Public Instruction by $3,322,536 state special revenue local assistance in FY 2024 and $4,958,824 state special revenue local assistance in FY 2025 in order to bring the total Major Maintenance Aid appropriation down to the statutorily calculated cap.
