AN ACT PROVIDING SEVERANCE BENEFITS TO EMPLOYEES OF THE MONTANA STATE HOSPITAL WHO ARE INVOLUNTARILY TERMINATED FROM EMPLOYMENT BECAUSE OF A REDUCTION IN FORCE; PROVIDING AN APPROPRIATION; AND PROVIDING AN IMMEDIATE EFFECTIVE DATE.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:



     Section 1.  Severance benefits for certain state hospital employees. The department of public health and human services shall provide severance benefits to Montana state hospital employees who are involuntarily terminated due to a reduction in force during the biennium ending June 30, 2001. Pursuant to 2-18-622, the department shall enter into written agreements with collective bargaining units of affected employees to negotiate benefits.



     Section 2.  Appropriation. There is appropriated from the general fund $250,000 to the department of public health and human services for the biennium ending June 30, 2001, to be used for the purposes of [section 1].



     Section 3.  Effective date. [This act] is effective on passage and approval.
