The Transportation Interim Committee (TIC) meets January 13 to continue its work on traffic safety systems and policy in Montana

The meeting begins at 9 a.m. in Room 152 of the State Capitol. The committee will receive an overview of the 2019 Transportation Safety Planning meeting, hosted by the Department of Transportation (MDT) in October and learn more about next steps in updating the state’s plan. The Comprehensive Highway Safety Plan is the state’s framework to engage residents and traffic safety advocates across Montana to one day meet the vision of zero fatalities and zero serious injuries on Montana’s roads.

During the January 13 meeting in Helena, the Department of Justice’s Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) also will provide an update on Montana’s compliance with the REAL ID Act. The committee also will explore transportation accessibility issues in Montana, with a presentation from the Montana Independent Living Project.

Work on House Joint Resolution 45 will begin, with committee members learning about the MDT’s 2019 Pedestrian and Bicycle Plan as well as learning more about how paths are funded in Montana. The committee also will hear about how Missoula and Bozeman are addressing increased usage of electric bikes.
