The LGIC holds half-day meeting during Legislative Week and seeks public comment on alternative onsite wastewater treatment systems.

The Local Government Interim Committee meets January 15 at 1 pm in Room 102 of the State Capitol to continue its interim work.

The committee will compare services offered at the MSU Extension Local Government Center to those offered at the Local Government Services Division of the Department of Administration and then receive an overview of the entitlement share growth rate calculation and relevant policy changes over time.

The day will wrap-up with a deep dive into the committee’s assigned study: SJ 3, Study of alternative onsite wastewater systems. The LGIC will receive a report of other states' regulations and hear a panel of engineers and industry experts discuss current challenges and possible solutions related to alternative systems.

The committee is seeking public comment related to alternative onsite wastewater systems and encourages those with knowledge of the design and installation of alternative systems to submit comment. Members are particularly interested in systems that are not currently allowed in rule, but may prove successful in Montana. Written comment is welcomed and may be emailed or mailed to committee staff. The committee will also hear verbal testimony at the January 15th meeting.

The meeting is live streamed at http://leg.mt.gov and broadcast on the Montana Public Affairs Network (MPAN).

An agenda and meeting materials are found on the committee website. For more information, and to submit public comment, please contact committee staff:
