The Local Government Interim Committee meets July 14 at 9:00 a.m. in Room 102 of the Capitol. This is the first meeting of the eight-member bipartisan committee, created by the 2017 Legislature to focus on state and local government relations and to act as the legislature’s liaison with local governments.

Representatives of cities and counties will share with the committee their ideas on the role the committee could play in strengthening the relationship between the legislature and local governments, as well as identify policy areas the committee might explore.

The committee will also discuss its work plan for the interim, including topics of interest to members and how it intends to approach its two interim studies. The committee was tasked with studying the statutory fire protection requirements for various-sized cities, as well as examining the state’s volunteer firefighter and emergency management systems.

The meeting will be live streamed at http://leg.mt.gov and will be broadcast on Television Montana (TVMT). Please check your local channel listings to find TVMT in your area. For more information about the meeting, including a full agenda, visit the committee’s website or contact Leanne Kurtz, committee staff.
