State Administration and Veterans' Affairs Interim Committee

Several national experts on voting technologies and public employee pension systems will address state legislators in Helena March 6 during a full one-day meeting of the State Administration and Veterans’ Affairs Interim Committee.

The morning session will feature speakers who will present on voting technology used in other states, voting system security, voting rights for disabled electors, and Montana’s current voting system certification process and alternative voting methods currently available for disabled electors in Montana. The committee is examining whether to draft legislation to alter Montana’s uniform ballot laws so counties can replace the AutoMark ballot marking system currently used by disabled electors with a different ballot marking system that does not print a ballot that can be counted the same way as ballots cast by other electors.

Presentations after the lunch break will cover pension legislation in other states, how Montana’s pension system funding and benefit levels compare to the systems in selected other states, pension reform trends, and best practice recommendations.

The meeting is open to the public and public comment is welcomed as scheduled on the agenda. The meeting will begin at 8 a.m. in Room 102 of the Capitol and may be broadcast on public television.  A detailed agenda and meeting materials are available on the committee’s website at http://leg.mt.gov/sava.  A link for live internet streaming of the meeting will be available on the Legislative Branch home page at http://leg.mt.gov
