     19-5-802. Payments in case of death from other causes. (1) If a retired member who chose a regular retirement benefit dies before receiving payments equal to the present value of the member's retirement benefit as it was at the time of the member's retirement, the balance must be paid to the member's designated beneficiary in a lump sum. At the designated beneficiary's request, the lump sum may be paid as an actuarially equivalent annuity that will not be subject to increases for any purpose.
     (2) If a member dies before reaching retirement age, the member's designated beneficiary is entitled to a monthly survivorship benefit that is the actuarial equivalent of the options as provided in 19-5-503.
