A legislative committee will continue its study of community services for people with developmental disabilities by looking at programs and rate structures in other states when it meets March 22-23 in Helena.

The Children, Families, Health, and Human Services Interim Committee also will receive information related to Medicaid expansion and the state's child protective services system, as well as recommendations from a subcommittee looking at transparency in health care pricing.

The committee will focus on the House Joint Resolution 24 study of community services for developmentally disabled adults on March 22. In the morning, members will hear about the ways in which crisis services and community provider rates are structured in other states. The Department of Public Health and Human Services also will talk about changes it has proposed for Montana's program and will respond to suggestions made by providers in January.

After the morning presentations, the committee will recess to tour several day programs and group homes operated by Westmont, a Helena provider.

On March 23, members will:

  • receive recommendations for potential action on price transparency, from the subcommittee that has been working since September on the study approved through passage of HJR 20 in 2017;
  • review recent federal action on work requirements and other changes to state Medicaid programs;
  • learn how Medicaid expansion in Montana has affected different types of health care providers; and
  • hear from DPHHS about initiatives the agency is undertaking related to child protective services.

The meeting will begin at 8 a.m. on March 22 in Room 102 of the Capitol in Helena and will continue at 8 a.m. on March 23. It will be streamed live on the legislative website, www.leg.mt.gov.
